Dear Friends and Neighbors,

Welcome to the website of the Town of Chatham Republican Committee. We are always looking for registered Republicans in the town of Chatham to become more involved in local and county government. As more people participate in our committee and in local government activities, the result will be a better exchange of ideas. This will hopefully lead to finding better solutions to local, county and statewide problems, regardless of party affiliation.

REPUBLICAN SUPPORTED TOWN OFFICE HOLDERS IN 2012

OUR POSITIONS ON THE ISSUES

KEEP TAXES LOW - Our team will work hard to get Town spending under control and reduce taxes so your hard earned money stays where it belongs -- in your pocket.

A FAIR ZONING LAW - The Town Board recently passed a new Comprehensive Plan proposing a new restrictive zoning law that will add new fees, expensive new programs, increase taxes and decrease property values. We can't afford this! While our out-dated zoning law must be updated for the 21st Century, the law must be fair and reasonable, not restrictive and oppressive. We don't need new laws that add to our financial burden in a recession. Our team will implement the Plan with fair and reasonable zoning laws that will not impose financial burdens on our hard-working families and will not negatively affect our historic hamlets by reducing the lot size from 1.5 acres to .5 acres.

FIX MALDEN BRIDGE - For years now, the Route 66 Bridge in Malden Bridge has been reduced to one lane. Our residents have lived with idling cars and “temporary” traffic lights in their front yards. No progress has been made. Our team will continue to fight at the highest levels of the State to get this situation fixed as soon as possible.

FIX OLD CHATHAM FLOODING - This year the residents of Old Chatham experienced another devastating flood which caused thousands of dollars in property damage. Our team will work hard to build a public/private partnership to develop a viable solution to this continuing problem.

LESS GOVERNMENT - The new Comprehensive Plan calls for the creation of over a dozen new Town committees/boards without any plan to pay for them. This extra bureaucracy will add more "red tape", delays and costs to town government. We can't afford this! Our team will work hard to keep our Town government efficient and responsive to your needs.

We are always looking for volunteers to help the town Republican Committee support our Republican office holders. Please CLICK HERE! to sign up to receive email alerts and/or to sign up as a volunteer. You can also call the Town Committee Chairman, John Wallace, at 518-392-7062.

The town of Chatham has passed a revised Comprehensive Plan for the town that was originally written back in 1972. A Comprehensive Plan is the foundation upon which communities are built because it serves as the cornerstone for future planning and zoning regulations that will ultimately determine how a town will grow and develop.

The town Republican office holders will protect your individual property rights, as new planning and zoning regulations are proposed, and they will also insure that any new regulations represent the will of the majority of people who reside in the town. Our Republican office holders will make our town government more efficient, control spending and become more citizen-friendly by offering more flexible office hours to accommodate the needs of town residents.

The Chatham Republican Committee believes that it is very important that every resident and/or property owner in the town of Chatham become familiar with the Comprehensive Plan because it contains proposals and recommendations that may result in restrictions being imposed on the future uses of your property, or your plans to develop or build additional structures on your property. Please CLICK HERE! to see a copy of the Town of Chatham, Comprehensive Plan.

As we all know, the Town of Chatham and Columbia County are two of the most beautiful places to live and work in New York State and we would like to keep it that way. We will try to make this website informative and user friendly. In order to find out a little more about us, just click on the links on the left side of the page. I hope to see you at one of our meetings.
